Almost Certainly False

The short film named ‘Neredeyse Kesinlikle Yanlış’ (Almost Certainly False) tells the story of Hanna, who works in a nail design salon in Dolapdere, Istanbul. While Hanna aims to specialize in nail design and settle in Germany to make her dreams come true, she is caught in between her younger brother Nader’s needs and her own desires.

The story depicts a sky where forced displacement and the quest for a better life intersect. Through the story, the film delves into the fact that people have simple desires such as living, enjoying life, and exploring life, in addition to having complex relationships, past traumas, and lost childhoods from their “previous, fragile lives.”
The story aims to explore the universal themes of belonging and pursuit of freedom, while offering the audience the opportunity to confront their own lives and emotions, thereby shedding light on the hidden but tangible damage of warfare on young people’s lives.

Cansu Baydar

Cansu Baydar was born in 1993 to an immigrant family in the Keşan district of Edirne. She was a boarding student at the Vefa High School. She graduated from the Cinema and Television and Motion Picture Departments at Bahçeşehir University. She completed his first year of university at Berlin International. During her stay there, she carried out joint projects with refugees and made a short documentary on freedom of movement. The documentary was co-produced by Arte and ZDF, and Soil Films from Berlin was the executive producer of the project in Turkey. She worked as assistant script writer and assistant director in the film project titled ‘Iguana Tokyo’ and the series titled ‘Hamlet’, both written and directed by Kaan Müjdeci. She worked as assistant director in the series ‘Bir Başkadır,’ written and directed by Berkun Oya, and as assistant producer in the movie ‘Cici.’ The short film script titled ‘Almost Certainly False’ was honored the ‘Best Screenplay Award’ at the AKBANK 19th Short Film Festival, and the ‘Best Project’ award at the 2nd Kısadan Anlat Short Film Project Contest.
