Boğaziçi Ayvalık Schools is an alternative education initiative created by a group of students and graduates from Boğaziçi University in order to introduce children in the age group of 7-12, who are at risk of social exclusion due to factors such as poverty, ethnic identity, and gender, and who have limited access to educational opportunities and social activities, to different fields of interest such as photography, cinema, sports, ecology, and theatre by organizing workshops on culture and art and to enable them to gain experience in these fields. The initiative focuses on principle of working with children in the framework of childhood characteristics, accepting children as entitled individuals, respect and empowerment. In Ayvalık, Zeytin Çekirdekleri Derneği (the Olive Seeds Association) carries out workshops for three weeks in the summer and two weeks in the winter with the support of the municipality and the district governor's office.

Boğaziçi Ayvalık Schools

Boğaziçi Ayvalık Schools is a volunteer community established by a group of students and faculty members from Boğaziçi University. This community emerged from a working group established at Boğaziçi University after the Soma Disaster. The community started to organize workshops for children with limited access to education and social opportunities by getting together with the Olive Seeds Association, which organizes activities to introduce art to children in the same town, and Ayvalık Municipality.
