Craft Tapes
December 2023 - November 2024
ISTANBUL
The “Craft Tapes” project emerged with a philosophy on how the aspect of production renews itself and what kind of new collaborative dialogues it can lead to. It is also a criticism on benefits of current technology pushing production into being soulless and incurious, a phenomenon which leaves real producers in the dark. The project is about craftsmen in the corners of Istanbul, in the basements and far from the city center. It aims to take both video and audio recordings of the productions made by the craftsmen in their workshop, the sound produced by the machinery they use, their dialogues within the workshop and the then-current workflow. The recorded images and sounds will subsequently be combined in post-production and transformed into an atmospheric and ambient song interpretation, where images and sounds match each other and accompany each other in a sequence.
Ertuğrul Berhan Yıldız
Yıldız works on sound recording technologies and music production. He is a multidisciplinary artist who avoids the standard convention with the goal of expanding his sound palette in the genres of Bass, Experimental and Breakbeat. He has played and continues playing live performances under the alias ‘Fossil’ at many domestic and international events. He produces audio for consol games, 3D videos and interactive media. Having performed in events such as Sonar Festival, Common Multiverse Initiative, Pera Museum x British Council “Plastic Dreams Stage,” Yıldız’s most predominant source is the noisy sound spectrum generated at the low frequency, which can generally be described as industrial.
