Root and Foundation

December 2023 - December 2024
ANKARA

Domestication and colonization have inseparable patriarchal ties. The excavator/extractivist approach, which exploits women, nature or labor, reshapes earth and life. In contrast, Veronica Gago's body-geography, as a field of struggle, is based on bodies experienced as geographical regions and geographical regions experienced as bodies. Like the inseparability of the human body from nature, no body is alone; it is established with kinships rather than human beings and contains within it all the knowledge of the geography to which it belongs. The Root and Foundation project focuses on these corporealities and traces the different forms in which the concept of body-geography comes to life. The visual narrative begins with a woman’s story and explores multiple temporalities that continue in or are interrupted by the land where she was born. In doing so, it connects to different ways of existence and adds each one to the other with patches.
