KAYSERİ
Symbiosis focuses on Mount Erciyes, located in close relations with the city of Kayseri, as well as the geography defining the topography surrounding it and the ecology created through the agency of all human and non-human elements. Using the means offered by the video narrative, it questions and evokes the relationship established with the nature, through walking in the point of view of the urbanite. It thereby creates room for the flaws, disruptions and gaps in the nature-urban relation, as well as dreams in which new relationships can be experienced. In addition to walking, the project also attributes importance to drawing as a means of globalizing. While exploring the Urban-Nature relationship through the video narrative, alternative relations which can be established with the city are examined through alterations made on images by drawing. The first phase includes footages, from the viewpoint of the walker, of the topographical lines of the mountain and changing climate conditions, as well as how it accompanies the states of “existence” of humans on earth. Such footages mark the sense of distantness between the urbanite and the nature. Whereas the focus of the second phase are the forms of relating, which goes beyond looking at and watching the nature. Thus, we meet the various and different life forms created within this geography by the nature, which the urbanite looks at and is distant from. By means of video, the emotions created by such an encounter are revealed. On the other hand, when all these footage are associated with the city map, it takes a form that can be altered via drawing.
