Music Family Association
A team of 35 people who had been providing academic art education in Kurdish mother tongue at Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Aram Tigran City Conservatory from 2010 to 2016 was laid off after a trustee was appointed to the municipality. The initiative was established on March 4, 2017 under the leadership of aforesaid 35 people, with support from 400 families and NGOs. Working under the name ‘ma‘ and with the motto “We will not leave children without music even if the entire world collapses,” this team of volunteers works for 6 days a week in an effort to deliver the music of many different languages and cultures, especially Kurdish, to everyone in the city, region, country and abroad.
Established in March 2017 in Diyarbakır as a private company with the objective of promoting cultural and artistic production, Ma Music’s work force and experience mainly consist of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Conservatory staff before the appointment of trustees. Ma Music has been primarily targeting children since its establishment, through its ZAROKma program with workshops and concerts. In 2023, the company decided that existing non-profit activities which had been carried out under corporate structure are transferred to an association structure, in order to add a new dimension to the bond with civil society and due to political necessities, and Ma Association (Music Family Association) was established in November 2022.
